Anzac biscuit Recipie

Anzac Biscuits

For our inquiry we are learning about Anzac and the history behind Anzac day. One of the activities that we had to do was make an Anzac biscuit recipe blog post and write some facts and history about Anzac biscuits. 

Anzac Biscuit Recipe

You will need:

  • 1/2 a cup of white flour
  • 1/2 a cup of white sugar
  • 3/4 of a cup of rolled oats
  • 3/4 of a cup of shaved coconut
  • 100 grams of butter
  • 1 tablespoon of golden syrup
  • 1/2 a teaspoon of baking soda
  • 2 tablespoons of boiling water

  1.  Mix the flour, rolled oats, sugar and coconut together in a bowl
  2. Get an adult to help you while melting the butter and golden syrup in a pan on low heat.
  3. Put the baking soda into a cup and ask an adult to help you add the boiling water, the mixture will begin to foam up. Add this to the mixture of butter and golden syrup.
  4. Pour the liquid mixture into the flour and other dry ingredients, and stir.
  5. Grease a baking tray, put tablespoons of the mixture onto the tray, about 4 centimetres apart.  
  6. Bake them at 180c for about 15 minutes until the biscuits are a golden colour.
       Some interesting facts and history about Anzac biscuits:
    1. The word Anzac means Australian and New Zealand army corps.
        2. We remember the people who died at war by having or making Anzac biscuits.
        3. It seems that it was most likely that the Anzac biscuits were made by the Mothers, wives and girlfriends left                     behind when the soldiers went off to war.
        4. The women liked to send food packages of Anzac biscuits to the soldiers but by the time they got there they were             so hard that they couldn't eat them.
